Leadership at Every Level The word "leadership" sounds like something that happens to other people. Department heads. Producers. Somebody with a title. But the people who move up fastest from PA and assistant roles usually behave like leaders long before anybody hands them the job. Leadership at the bottom looks boringIt isn't giving speeches. It's owning a small thing completely so nobody has to check it. The van is fueled. The sides are printed. The call sheet went out without three typos. Lunch is where you said it would be. On a set full of moving parts, being the person who never needs chasing is rare, and everyone notices. The flip side matters too. If you drop something, say so immediately. Hiding a mistake for two hours costs the production real money. Flagging it in ten seconds costs almost nothing, and it buys you a reputation for being trustworthy under pressure. Read the room, then fill the gapGood juniors watch. They figure out who's stressed, what's about to be needed, and where the bottleneck is. Then they step in without being asked, and without stepping on anyone's toes. That second part matters. Leadership at entry level is not taking over. It's making other people's jobs lighter. It's also how you treat people with no power over you. The other PAs, the background actors, the caterer. Crews talk. The person who's charming to the producer and short with the interns gets clocked fast, and that story travels farther than any good one. What to actually do this weekPick one thing you can own from start to finish on your next gig or short. Own it properly. Tell your supervisor once, briefly, that you've got it covered. Then write down three names of people you worked with who'd vouch for you. If you can't fill all three, that's your next job: get back on set, even unpaid on a student short, and be the person who's easy to work with. And if you've had a win recently, hit reply and tell us how it happened. We share the good ones.

Production Assistant is our pick today. It's with a big talent management and live entertainment outfit in Los Angeles, keeping client schedules, tours and live shows running: event logistics, travel, media and promo bookings, ticket counts, chasing contracts and riders, and keeping the trackers honest.
